Canton Academy students recently published their first online edition of The Panther Post, a student run newspaper.

With the implementation of a journalism class, spearheaded by teacher Courtney Warren, students write at least two stories per month ranging from news and opinion to sports and feature articles.

There is also a section for polls where students can voice their opinions about favorite Netflix shows or if they like the new student ID cards.

Warren said she enjoys the class and is excited about the upcoming editions.

“I like it a lot. I think that the students come up with some really fun ideas and I am really proud of the first edition of the Panther Post,” she said.

The Panther Post website is very organized and saves paper and money.

Mrs. Warren said about the website, “I think it is a really cool concept. I think that it also saves a lot of money and you don’t have to worry about printing it.”

Warren is a great fit for teaching the Journalism class because she has worked as a Journalist for five years for The Bolivar Commercial in Cleveland.

She also really enjoys being a journalist, she says it is the best job she could ever have.

She has never taught journalism before but she has trained and helped other journalists she works with.

Warren says she has a lot of plans for the future of the class.

“I would like for us to go on a field trip. I would love if we visited The Clarion Ledger, maybe to the Bolivar Commercial and watch the printing press. We could see how it works and see how the plates are burned to make the actual paper. I think that would be really neat,” she said.

The class is working on getting custom hoodies and t-shirts right now to show their pride in the newspaper.

There are a lot of different roles in the class.

There are several editors for the paper, who go above and beyond to ensure the work is done.

Edi Craft is news editor and managing editor, photographer editor is Noah Smith, John Marc Ocain is sports editor, Allie Parkinson is lifestyles editor, and Ty Townsend is opinion editor.
