Going into the second week of September Canton Academy was still looking for their first win of the 2019 season and this week they had to play the East Rankin Patriots. The Panthers were victorious over the East Rankin Patriots with a 41-14 stunning win. The team pulled through and played a hard fought game; this gave new life to them and they now knew that they could win if they tried and never quit.

The Panthers faced some adversities during the game but overcame them and continued to play hard to finally walk away with a long awaited victory. They played smart and played strong and executed their assignments to find guy with the football and delivered crushing tackles. The Offense was able to move the ball smoothly up and down the field to score an impressive 41 points against the patriots. The team showed great heart and played like a well trained unit; each dependent on the next on the teammate, trusting one another and to do their job. The team knew going into the game that they would desperately need this win if they wanted to secure a wildcard chance of being able to compete in the playoffs.

Another main asset that sparked our team to victory was when Coach Blount decided to simplify the defense and play old school smash mouth football. A great boost was when the team got the first safety due to downing of the ball from a punt at the one yard line. Yes this game was exciting as we play less than favorable conditions; the season has changed and it looks like our teams’ motivation has too, Go Panthers. Burnside states “the team got fired up and knew they needed to win, when senior Cole Graham tore his ACL.” The team prior to this game has suffered many injuries from many key players. Including Dakota Jordan (RB), Nick Forman (QB), Quin Taylor (WR), Jack Carr (P/G), and Walker Mcguffe (T). But the team has managed to pull together and use what they had and played good football which lead the team to a victory.
