The tension was high as the Canton Academy Panthers fought against the Hartfield Academy Hawks on Aug 30. The game was one of the biggest games of the season so far and Canton Academy’s former head coach Craig Bowman left CA last year to become offensive coordinator for the hawks. Not only has coach Blount never lost a game to Hartfield but he was not used to losing at all and did not plan on it. In the  first quarter senior quarterback Cruz Garner for Hartfield Academy Hawks scored 30 yard passing touchdown to junior Brandon Buckhaulter which gave the Hawks a 7 to 0 lead. The Panthers quickly drove the ball down the field, but because the hawks played solid defense with panther on the 25 yard line panthers had to settle for a field goal that was kicked by junior Case Lambert making the score 7-3.

To start the next drive the  Hawks kick returner senior Erick Short had a seventy yard return, which a few plays later Cruz continued his momentum and threw another fifteen yard passing touchdown to Short which gave them a 14 to 3 lead going into halftime. After Halftime Panther were clearly drained and tired due to having less players, but they still came out and tried to battle the hawks but just couldn’t hold up.

With sophomore running back Marcus Goodloe out with dehydration, that meant junior Quin Taylor had to step up. Panthers had a few good kick return one by Goodloe for 40 yards and one by Taylor for a 60 yard, but panther just couldn’t capitalize on it. Early in the fourth quarter Hawks receiver buckhaulter catches a post in the middle of and makes several panthers miss and scores 50 yard touchdown.

With 5 minutes left in the game former sophomore quarterback Corey Jackson dropped back to pass the ball, sees that there aren’t any open receiver and takes off for a 46 yard touchdown which then gave the panther 10-46 With the panthers having fewer players than Hartfield, their starters were worn out and the Hawks took then  took the lead by far.

In  regards to the game David Blout, CA Head Coach, “ I think that they wore us down cause they were bigger and had more depth then we had and were much bigger up front”. When asking CA head coach what can we learn from the game and take into the rest season he said “ Don’t quit keep playing hard no matter what the score is never quit, going into the rest of the season we should be able to win because we want to be outnumbered.”
