Mrs. Carolyn Blakemore is a star teacher.

After moving to Jackson, Mississippi in 2000, Blakemore taught at many schools before joining Canton Academy two years ago.

In 2000 she moved with her family from East Tennessee to Jackson, Mississippi to continue her career in high school education.

For 15 years she’s been teaching multiple subjects such as Spanish I and II along with History.

After one year of teaching only Spanish she took on the history class of Juniors.

The way she teaches is easy and she makes sure to adapt to everyone’s specific learning.

In her free time she is a tutor to many young children and adults who are unable to speak English.

By using her own Spanish knowledge she is able to help others in ways that not many others can.

Blakemore said, “The children struggle in school because English is not spoken at home and they don’t always understand their school work. Because of my Spanish background, I am able to help the parents, as well, in understanding what is needed for their children.

“Often I have had to translate notes and forms for the parents when these items are sent home from school.”

In the classroom she is known to adapt to her students needs, especially in Spanish.

Because of her witty personality and her ability to get off task and still teach in the process, Mrs. Blakemore is a favorite teacher around Canton Academy.

“She’s easy to get off topic with but we are always learning new. I’ve learned more about politics and other stuff just listening to our discussions,” said Beau Barr,Junior.

Over the course of the two years she has helped collect and send shoe boxes donated to Operation Christmas Child.

“She’s a great woman,” said Abbie Parkinson, sophomore.

Blakemore is known to help and adjust to the needs of her students.

“I had to do Spanish I on Rosetta stone so I did not know much so Mrs. Blakemore is helping me catch up and understand what i’m doing,” said Parkinson.

The classes she holds have a very calm and loving environment.

“I like that Mrs. Blakemore helps us a lot and that she likes to work things out with the students,” said Parkinson.

“Her class wakes me up even though it’s only my first class of the day and she’s not boring like some other teachers,” said Parkinson.
